Reducing the Pain of switching Windows PCs

Do you have your PC set up and love it as it is?
Do you hate having to re-customize when you get a new one?
Here are some of the things I’ve learned that make transitioning from one PC to another less painful…

Copy Windows Task Bar

See this great Help Desk Geek post for a great walk through on how to do this on Windows 7/8/10:

Microsoft Quick Access Toolbars
Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint…

Transfer File Explorer Quick Links

NEED TO TEST & VERIFY THIS WORKS!!!!!!!

This site has a .bat file you can download to copy your quick links from File Explorer: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/42864-backup-restore-quick-access-toolbar-windows-10-file-explorer.html#option1

SECURITY NOTE: I downloaded the file, but I refuse to use someone else’s bat file.

I opened the file in notepad++, then copied the one line of the bat file. to the windows ‘run’ window and executed it by clicking ‘ok’.

This successfully copied the file to my desktop with the name: Quick_Access_Toolbar_Backup.reg

Windows Run Window

REG EXPORT HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Ribbon %userprofile%\Desktop\Quick_Access_Toolbar_Backup.reg

NEED TO TEST – NOT SURE IF THIS WORKS YET

The tips above saved me from manually re-customizing my programs.
